What is Coaching?
The International Coaching Federation (the regulating body for Coaches) defines Coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional lives.”
What does that mean? Coaching is the guided exploration of one’s self and how you interact with the world. The standard coaching session is always client driven: your topic, your pace, your choice. Together we’ll explore whatever you want to focus on.
What are the benefits of Coaching?
Feel more stable and fulfilled both in your personal and professional lives
Be able to identify and accomplish your goals (often developing and using various accountability metrics)
Connect more deeply to yourself and the people in your life
How is Coaching different than Therapy?
Coaching and therapy work in similar spaces however there are some big differences.
Therapists dive into the past to understand the present. Coaching explores the present to improve the future (both internally and externally).
Therapy helps clients move from dysfunctional to functional. Coaching helps clients move from functional to optimal.
Sometimes Coaching and Therapy can overlap. Have no fear. If it seems like therapy would be a better fit, we will provide you with resources to help you find the right support.
How do I prepare for my first session?
Coaching is client-directed. Before your first session, consider what you want to get out of our partnership. Ask yourself a couple of questions to prepare:
Why are you seeking a coaching relationship right now?
If we are successful in our work together, how will your life be different? How will you be different?
